A budget without the guesswork

How much does a ski holiday in Japan cost?

The useful number is the cost of the holiday you actually want, with the room, flights and ski arrangements you will actually use. Here is how to build that figure without mixing a room-only offer with a much more complete package.

Start with the land package

Our UK prices are per person in pounds, with international flights separate. The table below uses the same current package prices as our dates and prices section. It shows two common room arrangements; the full pricing table also has solo rooms, other doubles and family suites.

The lowest price assumes three guests sharing a Deluxe room, with a sofa bed for the third guest. If you are a couple, compare the two-sharing price. If you want your own room, use the solo rate. Those are different holiday arrangements, not interchangeable headline figures.

What those prices cover

The package combines seven nights at The Wadano in Hakuba with four nights at Grand Prince Hotel Shin Takanawa in Tokyo. Breakfast is included at both hotels. You have six ski days and four Tokyo nights within a 12-day stay in Japan.

A six-day Hakuba Valley lift pass, ski or snowboard hire, the coordinated airport and intercity transfers, and an English-speaking Japanese host for practical support are included. This removes several major items from the list you would otherwise arrange separately.

Your personalised quote confirms the room and bedding arrangements, availability and any changes requested. Children’s pricing depends on age, occupancy and the services required, so a family should request a family quote rather than multiply an adult starting price.

Add your actual UK flight quote

Airfares change too much for one evergreen estimate to tell you what your trip will cost. Search your intended dates and departure airport, then include checked baggage, seat choices if you need them, and any sports-equipment charge. A cheaper fare can be less appealing once the complete journey is compared.

Check the Tokyo airport, local arrival date and return departure time. Confirm the flights with us before booking so they fit the group’s transfers. If you extend the stay or choose a different arrival plan, ask whether additional accommodation or transport is needed.

The UK travel window starts before your first hotel night in Japan because of the overnight outbound journey. Comparing dates carefully helps avoid paying for a flight that arrives a day too early or misses the planned transfer.

The extras worth allowing for

Lunch and dinner are separate from our breakfast-inclusive hotel arrangements. You can keep many meals informal and choose a few special dinners, or make food a larger part of the holiday budget. Use menus for the places you actually want to visit instead of assuming every meal in Japan costs the same.

Lessons can be a significant item for beginners or families. Ask a school about the full number of days, private versus group lessons, ages, meeting points and any additional equipment or lift-ticket requirements. Our trip host provides logistical help, not ski instruction.

Tokyo is yours to explore independently. Allow for local transport, attractions you choose, shopping and any privately booked experiences. Sightseeing and optional experiences in Tokyo are arranged separately.

  • Winter-sports travel insurance, including the activities and cover you need.
  • Lessons or specialist mountain guiding if required.
  • Lunches, dinners, drinks and personal spending.
  • Ski clothing and accessories not included in your rental arrangement.
  • Optional activities, Tokyo transport and any extra hotel nights.

Independent booking or a package: compare like for like

Either approach can work. For an independent trip, put every item into one total: both hotels, the meal basis, airport and intercity travel, local ski transport, the right lift pass, rental and any assistance you want. Then compare that total with a package offering the same arrangements.

A single-resort lift ticket is not the same product as a valley-wide pass. Similarly, a hotel that looks close on a map may not be convenient for your lesson or chosen mountain. Check the details behind the price before deciding which offer represents better value for you.

A package also has value in the coordination and support it provides. For our trips, the English-speaking Japanese host helps with practical arrangements while you retain the freedom to choose your ski days and Tokyo plans. Whether that matters to you is part of the comparison.

A simple way to work out your total

Use this calculation: your confirmed package price + your flight quote + lessons or guiding + insurance + meals and personal spending. For a group, decide which figures are per person and which are shared before adding them together.

The package is priced in GBP; many purchases in Japan will be in yen. Check your payment method’s foreign-currency charges and keep room in the budget for the extras you care about. A fixed pound price for the land package does not fix the cost of everything you buy locally.

To make the budget go further, choose a room configuration that genuinely suits the party, compare complete flight costs and be selective about paid activities. If you bring your own ski equipment, ask us for an adjusted quote and weigh any saving against airline baggage costs.

Your questions, answered.

Why is a solo room more expensive per person?

One person covers the room cost instead of sharing it. Our solo option gives you your own room; sharing with an unknown traveller is not guaranteed.

Are all meals included?

Breakfast is included at both hotels. Budget separately for lunches, dinners, drinks and any other meals not specified in your quote.

Does the price include flights and lessons?

No. International flights, lessons, specialist mountain guiding and travel insurance are separate. Hotels with breakfast, the specified pass and rental, coordinated transfers and host support are included.

Can I use the lowest displayed price for my family?

The displayed prices depend on room occupancy and category. Children’s ages, bedding and ski services can change the quote, so send those details for an accurate family price.
